So why is it that some players can show up on game day and perform while others crumble? I believe there are three factors: mindset, routine, and nutrition.
An elite athlete’s mindset is their silent killer. It is what allows them to show up on game day with the same level of focus and confidence as they do on practice days.
While the average player may see their nerves as a disadvantage, the elite athlete sees it as excitement and fuels their performance. They have also developed a pre-game routine that gets their mind and body in the right place to perform at their best.
Just like any machine, our bodies need the proper fuel to function properly and tennis is no different. A player’s diet should include complex carbs for energy, lean protein to repair muscles, healthy fats for recovery, and electrolytes to prevent cramping.
It is important to remember that what works for one player may not work for another, so it is important to experiment and find what works best for you.
Is it OK to play tennis every day?
Playing tennis every day may not be the best idea if you want to stay in good health and avoid injury. According to most experts, if you’re under 30 years old, you can safely play at a high level 3-4 times a week.
If you’re between 30 and 50 years old, a good number is 2-3 times per week. Once you’re over 50, you might not want to competitively play more than twice a week, and if you must exceed that number, keep the 3rd match friendly.
